If Big Walk reports that the connection to the host timed out, first confirm that the host has finished loading into the world. Then check the current Join Code, password and compatible game versions. A timeout does not identify one universal cause, so work through these checks before changing system settings. [faq]

Check the session first

CheckActionWhat it distinguishes
Host still in menus or loadingWait until the host is walking in the worldA session that is not ready to accept players
Old Join CodeCopy the code from the current Session DetailsA previous session’s code
Password rejectedRecheck the password with the hostAn access-detail problem
Different versionsMatch the first two version numbersAn incompatible session version
Host quitHave the same host resume the saveA closed session rather than a client failure

Codes change with each session. Passwords became required in 1.4.9, and only the first two components of the version number must match. [faq] [history]

Check the network symptoms

Look for warnings in the lower-left corner. Fully restart the game on the affected devices and try again. If the host cannot create any session, check that the device’s clock is correct and that it can reach Epic Online Services; Big Walk uses that service for connectivity. [faq]

For an unstable session that connects and then becomes choppy, try a wired connection or reduce competing network traffic. Also check whether the host’s game performance is struggling. That is a different symptom from a password rejection, so do not keep changing the password to fix it.

Avoid deleting the host’s save as a troubleshooting step. The save contains the group’s progress, and the official connection guidance does not require removing it. Keep passwords and Join Codes out of public screenshots.

Update before retrying an older known problem

The official 1.4.10 notes include network stability, server-disconnection handling and clearer connection errors. Version 1.5.1 distinguishes slow connections from unstable ones more clearly. Updating may address a known defect, but the notes do not prove that every timeout has that cause. [history]

When to contact support

If a fresh, compatible session still fails after the official checks, use the support contact linked from the official FAQ. Report the error text, each platform and version, whether hosting or joining fails, and whether any other player can connect. Those details help separate a single-device problem from a host or service problem. [faq]
